Dot NAME Domains

Launched in 2001, the Dot NAME universal top-level extension is the single TLD intended for personal sites only. These domain names can consist of personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other designations people are known by. At first, solely 3rd-level registrations were possible, so if you desired to book john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also allowed. Existing third-level names remained running.
